hand made pie Welcome to Pj's Pie Pub

PJ’s Pie Pub is a unique and enchanting experience that will tickle your taste buds and transport you to a different world of pure homemade food. PJ’s Pie Pub - A Whole that can be shared!

In 2004 PJ’s burning ambition to create hearty homemade pies took root in Burton Coggles. With the PJ Pie Mantra in mind PJ set about crafting a pie menu that would tantalise and tempt even the most discerning of food-lover.

PJ’s pie principle is to take one pie dish, stuff full of wholesome, free-range ingredients and top with a homemade, melt in the mouth pastry crust.

The company to this melody pie of flavours is a family of fresh vegetables, original recipe potatoes and a crunchy béchamel cauliflower cheese.

At the Pie Pub we simply reverse the popular idea of a pie. Peeling the thick dry crust away, removing the gelatine, and microscopic amount of filling, to create delicious, big, nutritious, hearty feasts!!

hand made pie Define the Pie

A hard one but here we go!

1. According to the dictionary a pie is a baked food filled with fruit, meat, cheese or other ingredients and usually covered with a pastry crust - basically the PJ Pie!

2. A prehistoric unrecorded language that was the ancestor of all Indo-European languages.

3. A mathematical constant and a transcendental (and therefore irrational) real number, approximately equal to 3.14159, which is the ration of a circle’s circumference to its diameter in Euclidean Geometry - unfortunately our pies are oval!

hand made pie Reviews

Guardian Newspaper

Article from the Guardian Newspaper – 17th June 2006
The Cholmeley Arms, Burton le Coggles.

"Booking is essential, but only because every pie is made to order, every taste catered for. Pies come with plenty of freshly cooked vegetables, and if you’re still not full after that, the Baked Alaska is to die for. Add to this good beer, fine wines and a friendly atmosphere. Mix that with an old-fashioned pub (P-J speaks French and Italian), and you have a wonderful, unforgettable experience for about £10 a head.”

Customer Reviews from UKTV Food Local Hero 2006

"Beautiful pies that melt in the mouth, made with succulent meat and fish that tastes supreme. Great atmosphere, a brilliant landlord that will make sure that you have a fabulous night. All meat is sourced locally and the pub is the centre of this small farming community. Independently owned and traditionally maintained Pubs like PJ's are rare in England now and should be supported by competitions such as this."
